Introduction

This is a phenomenon where, we are observing a container into which we make a small orifice on the side. The phenomenon we observe is that when a liquid is poured into the container, the liquid will stop flowing out of the orifice at differing heights above the orifice. We conducted our experiments with different types of liquids, while mostly focusing on water. We mostly used cylindrical containers as its theoretical model is the least complex out of our repertoire of containers, however we have also attempted the experiment with a container with a square cross-section so as to check if that would affect the results. We have also tried using containers with differing diameters as well as doing the experiments with differing diameters of the orifice we have created, so as to see how it would affect the experiment's results.
